 Since 1996, NanaWall Systems, Inc. has partnered with Solarlux Systems Limited of Germany to manufacture technologically advanced glass windows, doors, and walls. Solarlux recently participated in an extensive renovation project in the small town of Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

Situated in the Dutch province of Geldern, Apeldoorn is recognized for its beautiful gardens and high standard of living. An economic boom in the 1960s vastly altered Apeldoorn’s architectural landscape. Under the planning and direction of the well-regarded architectural firm Groosmann Partners in Rotterdam, a green living quarter was constructed in the northeastern part of the city. Solarlux contributed its innovative sliding glass doors and windows to a major refurbishment project, installing transparent facades in the former De Valk building. Stripped down to its bare bones, only the concrete structure of the De Valk remained. The original building, was 10 stories high and took up a full city block, with the entryway located in the middle of the structure. A vital aspect of the redesign involved the innovative facade solution that Solarlux made possible.

The architect’s wish was to provide residents with a light-filled living space that harmoniously fused indoors and outdoors, in order to increase long-term quality of life. Solarlux fitted each individual apartment with a glass folding facade that extended across the full width of the living room, creating an aesthetically pleasing “invisible” wall. Impermeable to wind and rain, the Solarlux facades also offer excellent stability, as each one is fitted with an advanced anchoring system. The De Valk project was a great success and is often referenced by cities around the world that undertake urban renewal projects.
